2021 is the Platinum Anniversary of CEF of South Carolina!
One way we’re celebrating is to highlight one of our staff members each week. (You can read more about our 70th Anniversary on our blog here.)
This week, meet Lisa Yerrick! She is the Local Director of CEF Greenville. She first learned about CEF when she applied for the position of Local Director, and has been serving here for 3 years. Her favorite part of working for CEF Greenville is the like-minded community we have in Greenville, Pickens, Oconee, and Anderson. Whether it’s someone in a school, church or a specific volunteer, people will share how much they love working with the children in Good News Club. With all the negative things going on in the world, it’s refreshing and encouraging to see the number of people who are committed to God’s mission for good in this ministry. One of her favorite memories of CEF is
“One week I went to AJ Whittenberg to help with GNC. A little first-grade girl I had not seen for a while was so glad I was there and called me by name. Before club was over she ran over and said, “I want to give you something!” She handed me a card she had made on notebook paper with a big heart on it. It read, “Every since I started good news club I finaly let god be my savor! I relly love this club. I LOVE GOOD NEWS CLUB!!! And I LOVE God!!” I laminated that note and hung it in our workroom at the office to remind us of why we do what we do – sharing the Gospel so that, through the power of the Holy Spirit, young hearts can be transformed.”
She also shared about the impact of a believing adult on her life:
“My parents were divorced when I was very young and I lived with my mother most of the time. I did see my paternal grandmother periodically and she always took me to church with her. I remember LOVING the flannel board as Sunday school teachers shared stories from the Bible. At that time no one else in my immediate family was in church or talked about God. When I was about 8 years old, my step-father started taking us to church. One Sunday he gave his testimony and he shared that his daughter, Lisa, had asked him why we didn’t go to church like other families. I don’t recall that conversation with him, but it was at least part of what propelled him to go to church. About a year later, my step-father and I were baptized together. I believe that my paternal grandmother, not only took me to church, but prayed for me. God heard those prayers and they impacted my life as well as the life of others. I spent the rest of my childhood in a family of believers, dedicated to church and faithful to the Lord.”
